A Brief Overview

Dad was born in Vancouver, Canada on the 10th of April 1947. As a young adult he left Canada to go on a short voyage to Japan to earn a bit of money as a deckhand... but fate led him to the shores of Australia. Grain strikes at the time meant that the ship had to alter its course and after its trip to Japan left to Saudi Arabia via Australia. In Australia, Dad put together a nice looking resume (people did not check references so thoroughly in those days) and applied for some dream jobs. As chance would have it, he landed a job at 2UE radio station as a DJ just before booking a ship back home and decided that this was just as good an excuse as any to stay in Australia. He got citizenship, moved to Sydney and met his first wife, Beth, and had his first child, Ben. Dad changed careers many times but one thing that stayed constant throughout his life was his passion for life and love for his family. When Dad met his second wife, Jill, he had two more boys; Alex and I, Luke. When Ben had his first child, Nina, Dad was the proudest grandfather you've ever seen (after getting over the fact he was a grandpa). He became prouder still when Ben had a baby boy, Ollie. Dad loved Ollie and Nina very much and whilst he won't be around to see you grow up, he did leave you both two uncles that love you very much and will always be there for you growing up and a great Dad who's personality reflects all the great qualities of Dad. Unfortunately, all have got Dad's sense of humour, which you may learn to appreciate at some stage of your lives. Throughout the years Dad's contagious passion for life ensured that we had many adventures together; camping near hippie communities, flying giant kites whilst being attached to a go-cart, catching the diamond python that lived under the house and (my personal favourite) sinking dad's boat on father's day, which was the only way to get to his water-access only house. Despite all this, Dad still had time to cook us awesome meals, take us to soccer games that were a long way from Berowra and teach us a lot about life along the way. One of the most important thing he taught me is the importance of family. He made sure that Ben, Alex and I grew up as a family and that we were all close to our relatives in Canada, despite the distance. We will always remember the great times we had together and will miss you a great deal.
